Camp NaNoWriMo Days 4 – 6

Day 4: Wednesday, April 4th

0 Words

I woke up and went to work, like any other Wednesday. My back feels exponentially better, but I am still very stiff and sore; sitting for long periods of time is uncomfortable.

I found out that a job I applied for wants to fly me out for an in-person interview in little more than a week. YAY! Bad news: they’re in Boston (a 6 hour flight one-way) and I’ll have to fly out and back in under 48 hours so as not to miss too much work. Looks like I’ll have to plan ahead and be ready to do some writing in the airport and on a cramped airplane (not my favorite place to write).

I was incredibly productive at work today. In fact, I was so productive that I worked through my lunch break, dedicating my lunch to real work and not to Camp NaNoWriMo. I told myself that I would write when I got home from work, but feeling creatively drained from work, I made turkey meatballs instead and curled up with my current read, Dear Mrs. Bird.

Zero words written today. I am officially 4,450 words behind schedule. YIKES.

Day 5: Thursday, April 5th

620 Words

Feeling incredibly guilty about not writing anything yesterday and for being so far behind, I decided to set aside some time this morning to work on my project at my office before work began. My iced chai tea latte in hand, I opened a new word document at my work computer first thing this morning and sluggishly typed away for an hour or so. The great thing about using Scrivener as my word processing software is that I am able to back it up into Drop Box, which gives me the ability to download a scene from anywhere and keep working on it in a fresh word document.

I plugged away at the unfinished scene I left on Tuesday. I didn’t quite wrap up the scene, but I was very pleased with the progress I made as I set myself up nicely to dive into the next scene. All in all, I wrote about 620 words before work. Well done me!

Work was busy. I ended up working through my lunch break, finding no time to set aside to write. On top of it all, I found out that another job I interviewed for is checking my references, which means I am a final candidate! Very exciting! But, this excitement resulted in me diving down an internet rabbit hole of apartments for rent, homes for sale, transit commuter schedules, discounts on gym memberships, and everything and anything I could research about the city where this potential job is located.

I got home, was exhausted, and finished reading my book, Dear Mrs. Bird instead of working on my book. I have no regrets though, as Dear Mrs. Bird was an absolutely lovely book (read my review here).

620 words written today. I am officially 5,497 words behind schedule. Oh boy.

Day 6: Friday, April 6th

0 Words

Determined to catch back up, I promised myself that today, I would crank out as many words as possible. I didn’t feel obligated to write all 5,497 words that I’m currently behind on – that would be an impressive feat, especially considering I had to work all day. But because it’s Friday and the weekend, I knew that I could stay up as late as I wanted to writing. The goal and focus of today wasn’t on a writing a specific number of words, but rather, the goal was to dedicate as much quality time as I could to writing. If you put in the time, the words will appear.

On the to-do list for today:
☑ Write my book review of Dear Mrs. Bird
Write before work for at least an hour

☑ Write during my lunch break
☑ Write tonight, when I get home from work, for as long as I am able

I accomplished exactly one of those things on my to-do list, which did not include working on my Camp NaNoWriMo writing goal. Instead, I wrote a grand total of 0 words today!

I got to work and I did work! I didn’t find or make any time to write before work, during my lunch break, or after work. When I got home, I was exhausted from the week and my back hurt, so I fell asleep watching Frasier episodes instead. I have a lot of writing to do tomorrow and Sunday.

0 words written today. I don’t even want to think about how far behind I am right now.

Total Word Count To-Date: 4,503 Words
