Bookish Gift Guide: Outlander Edition

The Outlander TV show and books have a massive following, but you might be a little lost when gift shopping for a fan if you have not watched the program or read the series. Although the Starz drama has been on for just two seasons (with Season 3 in production), the books series started over 20 years ago. That means there is plenty of merchandise and gifts available to buy, even if your Outlander fan already has the DVDs and books. With a chill in the air and snow around the corner, it’s the perfect time to don hand-knitted infinity scarves and wrist warmers while sipping Scotch whisky.

Candles: Make their house smell like the Scottish coast with Book Lover’s Soy Sassenach candle ($18).

The online marketplace, Etsy, is a wonderful way to find handcrafted gifts and vintage items while supporting small and local businesses. Most Etsy sellers are home-based businesses. Their reputation means a lot to them, so I have always found Etsy sellers to be very responsive and shipping to be extremely fast. All you have to do is type in “Outlander” into the search box at and you will see a wide variety of Outlander related products including jewelry, knitwear, t-shirts, mugs, Christmas ornaments, car stickers.

Want more jewelry? Try this dragonfly in amber necklace ($22.53).

Etsy is awash with other beautiful dragonfly jewelry, including this dainty necklace.

I also want pretty much every hand-knitted item that comes up when you search Outlander on Etsy, but a couple of my favorites upon first-browse include KnitPlayLove’s outlander inspired plaid scarf tartan wrap (on sale now for $26.60) and fall4handmade’s fingerless gloves/wrist and hand warmers ($50).

I also love Claire’s lovely shawls and her chunky knit cowls, like this one from PikaPikaCreative (currently full price at $55.00).

Funko! Pop Figure: You can have your own Jamie Fraser or Claire Randall. The small vinyl figures are both space and budget-friendly ($8.95).

Coloring Book: Adult coloring books are all the rage, and Outlander has joined the fun. You can color in plenty of romantic Jamie and Claire scenes in The Official Outlander Coloring Book (currently on sale for $10.83).

The Men in Kilts Pinup Calendar Series: For the Outlander fan who has everything but shame, I suggest this artistic celebration of shirtless men in kilts by Etsy seller TheSummerCountry Arts.  You can purchase months individually. I am a big fan of November’s 8 x 10 pinup ($15.00).

A Signed Book: a meeting with Diana Gabaldon is not something you can easily arrange, but it is easy to get a novel she signed. The Poisoned Pen sells Outlander books autographed by the author (prices vary).

A Bottle of Laphroaig Quarter Cask: Sam Heughan (Jamie) has named this one of his favorites (along with Lagavulin 16). The Laphroaig website describes the taste thusly: “On the nose the sensation is toffee and caramel, caused by the vanillas and tannins of the American oak, plus a dryness from the wood oil. The finish is long and alternates between this sweetness and smoke.” Grab a a bottle at your local liquor store (prices may vary).
